Disney animated films
had become somewhat second-rate by 1989 and it appeared that one of the
great genres in the cinema was on life-support. But that all changed
with "The Little Mermaid". The film is a cinematic classic that tells
the story of a young mermaid princess who just wants to be human so she
makes a deal with an evil sea witch to get her wish, but she loses her
beautiful voice in the process and she must be kissed by her true love
to get it back. A really great motion picture that has some really
memorable songs in it. 5 stars out of 5.

You'd be hard-pressed
to find a historical account that acknowledges the influence (much less
the existence of) the Minions throughout time. No matter how many
textbooks are produced and released each year, almost ZERO of them note
the presence of this incredibly powerful minority group.
Well, where history has silenced the Minions, let this surprisingly accurate documentary speak volumes. I found no embellishments of history throughout this 91-minute feature. It would have been easy to swing the pendulum of power to overemphasize the history of the Minions as it relates to major world events, but the filmmakers didn't go for the easy shots. They simply told the truth, and what we are left with are the clear facts of what really happened to the dinosaurs, the cavemen, and--what I'm sure will be most controversially-- the true lineage of royalty in England. Very bold.
If this doesn't win the Oscar for Documentary Feature, we will truly know which side of history the Academy stands on.

Lucy, Gru seems on the wrong track even as his minions are being quietly

I went to see this film this morning and found it very enjoyable. I can't really remember the 1st so I can't really compare.
Despicable Me 2 is a fast paced, funny, feel good film that keeps you entertained from the 1st minute to the last. The pace of the film moves along nicely and keeps the audience attention very well. It has many laugh out loud moments, a decent mix of children humour and adult humour.
The main character Gru (voiced by Steve Carell)is likable and funny. The minions however are the main stars, they had me laughing on multiple occasions during the film. The language created for the minions is very well done as they speak in a fictional language but you can always gather what they are saying.
I found the visuals very impressive, it was very colourful and very imaginative. The action scenes we also very well done.
Would definitely recommend seeing this, no matter what your age. I am 22 and thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It's not just for kids!

Since Toy Story 3 is in
theatres, it's rather knee-jerk to compare Despicable Me to the
animation giant. But you shouldn't. Despicable Me doesn't have the
heavy, dark tones of the final Toy Story and, therefore, is probably
better suited to smaller children. As with the best family films,
though, adults will love this story as much - if not more - than their
little ones.
And here's why. It is incredibly rare to see a single dad portrayed in such a positive light. While Gru has an admittedly "bad" vocation, there are unbelievably sweet moments between him and the three children, probably aided by the juxtaposition of tiny girls to a large, "bad" guy.
The nepotistic supporting cast from Saturday Night Live (even Jack McBrayer works for Tina Fey) is fantastic. One pleasant surprise was from Gru's minions: they did not steal the show. Not that they should've- the little yellow guys were funny and entertaining, but one would expect from the previews they would ultimately be the best part of the film... and I'm happy to report that wasn't true.
Despicable Me is LOL funny throughout, warm, goofy, and will not disappoint. I'd say you're a despicable parent if you don't take your kids to see it immediately.

Movie Reviews
" Monsters University"
is a new film from Pixar that is a prequel to their film "Monsters
Inc.". In addition to the two main characters, a whole lot of new
characters are introduced at the college that Mike and Sully attended.
The plot involves Mike trying to become a 'scaring major'—something
quite unthinkable since he isn't the least bit scary. There's a lot more
to the film than this, but I won't spoil it by saying more about the
plot.
My daughter was lucky enough to go to the debut of "Monsters University". She liked it but also felt the story was disappointing since it lacked original characters and the story reminded her of too many college films (like "Revenge of the Nerds" and "Animal House"). My wife saw it with me and she said that the film put her to sleep! This is all very odd, as I am usually the most difficult to please in the family when it comes to films—yet I thoroughly enjoyed the film and nearly gave it a 9. While I would agree it lacks originality, it did make me smile. It was a nice, gentle film—one that I didn't mind just watching without picking it apart (like I usually do). Much of this is because the CGI was simply gorgeous and It was a pleasure watching such a beautiful film…as well as such a nice and enjoyable film.

I grew up watching this
film and along with Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella it is one of my
favourite Disney films. I love it! Robin Williams is so good in it.
He's hilarious. This film isn't just for kids but for the whole family. I
think I was about 5 when I first saw it and at 14 I still watch it and
so do my parents. I haven't seen the sequels because I heard that Robin
Williams wasn't in them and decided that they wouldn't be as good
without him. He was made for the part. The songs are amazing. I love
singing along to "A Whole new World". I'm hoping to get the soundtrack
soon. I also love the film because I have the same name as the princess
in it! I would definitely recommend it to everyone. You're never too old
to watch a classic Disney film.

In the Chinese Spirit Realm, Kai (J.K, Simmons), steals Master Oogway's (Randall Duk Kim) chi stolen and becomes determined to steal the chi from the Dragon Warrior too and returns to the mortal world. Meanwhile, Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) announces his retirement and passes the role of teacher to Po (Jack Black). Po is elated at first, but discovers that teaching kung fu is not as easy as he expected, as the Furious Five members Master Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Master Crane (David Cross), Master Mantis (Seth Rogen), Master Viper (Lucy Liu), and Master Monkey (Jackie Chan) are injured as a result. When Po is not sure who he really is, Shifu advises Po to be himself.
Po heads to his adoptive father, Mr. Ping's (James Hong) Noodle Store, where a panda named Li Shan (Bryan Cranston) breaks Po's noodle-eating record. The two pandas meet and soon Po learns that Li is his biological father and bonds with him much to Ping's jealousy. After introducing Li to Shifu and his friends, the valley is attacked by green statues controlled by Kai. Po discovers that some of the statues resemble past Kung Fu Masters. The team then learn that Kai was Oogway's old friend who wanted the power of chi and was banished to the spirit realm. To defeat Kai, Po must learn to channel chi himself, which Li offers to him by taking him to the secret panda village. Po, Li and Mr. Ping reach to the village, where Po befriends the villagers and becomes infatuated with a ribbon dancer named Mei-Mei (Kate Hudson). There, Po learns the life of a panda in the village, to which he feels grateful to be a part of.
After learning that many kung fu masters are missing, Shifu sends Crane and Mantis to follow the jade statues that would lead them to Kai. Crane and Mantis meet with Master Bear, Master Croc and Master Chicken to confront Kai, but they are all easily defeated. Kai then arrives to the Jade Palace and destroys it, but not before stealing the chi of Monkey, Viper and Shifu. Tigress escapes to find Po and warns him about Kai. Afraid, Li and the pandas prepare to run away. Po demands Li to teach him chi, to which he responds that he lied so he wouldn't lose his son again. Infuriated, Po leaves and trains to fight Kai alone. Mr. Ping then comforts Li by saying that Po will need them both as fathers.
Tigress confronts Po and tells him he cannot defeat Kai, to which he complies, but Li and the villagers decide to stay and ask Po to train them to fight back. Po agrees and teaches them through their everyday activities as their greatest skills. Kai then arrives to the village and has his minions chase after Po, but are held off by the pandas, distracting Kai. The plan is successful but ultimately fails when Po tries to use the Wuxi finger hold on Kai, to which he replies that it only works on mortals, and he is not. Kai gains the upper hand in their fight, but Po grabs Oogway's chi and uses the Wuxi finger hold, sending them both to the spirit realm. They fight again, but Kai defeats Po and prepares to take away his chi. Upon what they learned from Po and who they are, Li, Tigress, Mr. Ping and the pandas are able to use their chi to save him. Po becomes a true master of chi and defeats Kai. The kung fu masters are freed while in the spirit realm Oogway expresses his happiness to Po through how much he has grown in becoming the Dragon Warrior. By choice, Po returns to the mortal world and is embraced by everyone and they all return to the Jade Palace to continue practicing their chi.

The question that has
been floating around about Kung Fu Panda 2 is if it is Shrek 2 or Toy
Story 2 of animated sequels? Well, I'm happy to say it's Toy Story 2
kind of animated sequel - a genuine good movie that takes risks and
succeeds rather than rehashing the first movie.
Po isn't as much of a gastro-kung-fu fighter and fanboi from the first movie but has grown in his personality; he's less the Jack Black as a panda and more of a character that stands on it's own. However, Po is now the tragic hero in a Greek style prophecy which foretells of a warrior in black and white who would defeat a certain Lord Shen who has invented a new weapon that could spell the end of kung-fu. As Po learns that he is adopted, he struggles to find out about his past and the strange symbol from his nightmares. The heavy subject matter doesn't weight down the movie and is continually and cleverly able to escape into funny moments without losing gravitas. It successfully weaves the topics of fatherhood, friendship and family into a colorful story that even though we know how it will end, it gets there very very emphatically.
I'm really glad that Kung Fu Panda 2 didn't go the route of being a purely children's movie and didn't go the route of being built on jokes of Po's eating and Po's weight. I suppose the fortune cookie philosophy of master Shifu is slightly missed but purely a small quibble in a good movie. As a final note, maybe it's because of my eyesight with a weaker left eye, I barely noticed the 3D at all. Highly recommended movie.

Caught a screening of
"The Panda" and all I can say is wow! I took my 6 year old daughter, who
has the attention span of a 6 year old, and she wants to see it again.
So do I!
Jack Black is not only half of the greatest band in the world, he is also a fine voice actor. His flawed character, Po the Panda is very refreshing. So is this film. After having to sit through the boring "Over the Hedge" and the last two "Shrek" messes, I really appreciated an animated feature form Dreamworks that didn't have too many celeb voices all competing for screen time. This is Jack Black's movie. He has 75% of the lines in the script and that is not a bad thing.
Don't just drop the kids off to see Kung Fu Panda. Go with them. I think it's one of those rare movies like The Incredibles and Finding Nemo that adults can enjoy as much as the kids.

WALL-E, Pixar's latest
film, is about a robot named WALL-E (or 'Waste Allocation Load Lifter,
Earth-Class'), who is the only thing left on earth with some sort of
emotion. He meets another robot named EVE, and the trip begins.
It's hard to describe in words how incredible I personally find this film.
The animation is flawless. Absolutely flawless. Especially on earth and the robots. It looks real. Much of the time it's impossible to tell whether or not it is real. The few slightly-shaky styled shots that appear a few times in the film only makes the animation that much more amazing and realistic. The humans are really good, too, while not realistic in the sense of you seeing it right now in real life, but they do have a realistic feel to them. The thing with the humans, I believe, is that they were purposefully meant to have this slightly rounded, slightly unrealistic feeling.
I believe the reason is to take a satirical look at humans, and what our goals for a future, perfect utopia, is. It questions what we want, and shows you what is a very, very likely outcome of our desires for a 'better' world, showing both positive and negative effects. The animation for the humans, I believe, was made rounded and slightly more cartoonish to emphasize that that is how we will become. Fat, lazy, yet so perfect. At times, especially with that perspective on the humans, they actually do look very real.
The story is brilliant. There are many little things in the film that have so much meaning to them. There are things that will be nostalgic to older viewers, and things that younger viewers will love to look at. However, it does steer for the cheesy, cliché aspects of a child's film, yet still remaining a completely G-rated film.
I don't call this a child's film at all. Not because it has adult material, because it doesn't. I say this because the film is perfect for everyone. Literally, everyone. There are things in it every person can enjoy, no matter who they are. It has obvious homages to Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey", and any adult who remembers seeing that film will notice this.
WALL-E is such a lovable character. I've never felt so much emotion for one character. He will definitely go down in history as iconic as Darth Vader, or Indiana Jones. I was so close to crying at pivotal parts in the film, and although I didn't fully break out and cry, I have never felt so much emotion in my heart with any other film as I did with this one.
EVE is very fun and interesting. One scene in particular, with her, was so beautiful, that my eyes got teary. Her chemistry with WALL-E is so oddly perfect. They are so different in appearance and personality, yet they work so well together.
The other robots are all lovable, except for the "enemy" robots, who still add much depth to the film. In particular, M-O was the cutest, obviously not counting WALL-E.
Pixar has always made great animation films. But this, without a doubt, tops all of their own films, and most other films. It restores faith in the animation films. It captures the magic and wonder as past Disney films, which is something I have not seen in most modern animation films.
I would not be surprised at all if this won for best picture of the year. It deserves it more than anything.
This is one of greatest achievements in cinematic history, and I encourage everyone to see this.

I'll be totally honest
and confirm to you that everything what they say about this movie is
true. It's a brilliantly animated masterpiece with lots of humor that
actually works and a plot that really brings tears to your eyes from
time to time. The modern artists of Pixar never cease to amaze the
audience in expanding their horizons. Finding Nemo is visually stunning
and you can have nothing but respect for the people who created it.
I was more or less skeptic about watching it, because it was so overhyped ! Two days before it got released in my country, the TV and press loudly announced that the DVD broke all records in the USA during its first release-day. That's usually a sign of being typically mainstream and fake...but Finding Nemo is not. I'm allergic to fake sentiment and pathetic feel-good movies but I was really touched by this one. The moral and valuable life lessons are always present, but they're not shoved down your throat or thrown in your face all the time. This movie really relativates itself and that's important for a good comedy. And it's hilarious !!! Every side character in Finding Nemo (and there are a LOT of them) is exceptional and worth a mention. And the voices are cast perfectly as well...like the voice of Willem Dafoe for Gill, for example...a perfect choice. The character of Dory ( speaks through the voice of Ellen DeGeneres ) steals the show. She's an adorable blue fish who suffers from amnesia. She forgets what she's doing or going to every five minutes and that really leads to hilarious situations.
Movies like this aren't just being made for children exclusive... They're good for everyone to realize you have to entertain yourself from time to time and just to enjoy the little things in life. I recommend this to everyone in the world. No matter if you're 9 or 99 years old, Finding Nemo will bring a smile on your face and leave behind a warm feeling in your heart.

In order to power the city, monsters have to scare
children so that they scream. However, the children are toxic to the
monsters, and after a child gets through, two monsters realize things
may not be what they think.
Directors:
Pete Docter, David Silverman |Writers:
Pete Docter (original story by), Jill Culton (original story by) |Stars:
Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Mary Gibbs |Storyline
A city of monsters with no humans called Monstropolis centers around the
city's power company, Monsters, Inc. The lovable, confident, tough,
furry blue behemoth-like giant monster named James P. Sullivan (better
known as Sulley) and his wisecracking best friend, short, green cyclops
monster Mike Wazowski, discover what happens when the real world
interacts with theirs in the form of a 2-year-old baby girl dubbed
"Boo," who accidentally sneaks into the monster world with Sulley one
night. And now it's up to Sulley and Mike to send Boo back in her door
before anybody finds out, especially two evil villains such as Sulley's
main rival as a scarer, chameleon-like Randall (a monster that Boo is
very afraid of), who possesses the ability to change the color of his
skin, and Mike and Sulley's boss Mr. Waternoose, the chairman and chief
executive officer of Monsters, Inc. Written by
Anthony Pereyra
It's a learning experience children get to see how an industry works. Monsters, Inc. is an in-genius corporation that has scientifically learned how to channel children's screams into energy that is used for electrical power. It has monster employees, an assembly line of doors (which give monsters access to children's bedrooms), a top-flight training program and some of the top Monsters in the scaring business.
There's a colorful Metropolis, filled with houses, buildings, businesses, cars and everything that makes a city run smoothly along with a population of colorful creatures. One of the colorful groups of creatures is the yellow swat team. Their job is to protect the Metropolis of Monsters, Inc. from human contamination.
But what happens when a human child mysteriously gets through the bedroom door and terrorizes the city with screams and boo's. It's wondrous and funny. In the mist of all this is industrial crime, brought on by greed. But, the story ends on a very happy note.
John Goodman is the voice of `Sulley' a colorful large blue-green ape like monster who's the star Monsters, Inc. employee. He's some type of monster, cut, cuddly, and he has a conscience that leads him to feelings of regret about scarring children. He becomes attached to Boo (voice of Mary Gibbs) a cute, little big-eyed girl who is mysteriously brought to Monsters, Inc. and in his quest to return her home becomes very attached to her.
Sulley's best friend is Mike (voice of Billy Crystal) who's a funny looking green ball with stick legs and one huge eye. His comedy is seen through out the movie. Mike is Sulley's driving force, acting as his agent. Mike's job is to make sure Sulley remains the top Monsters, Inc. employee. But when it comes to laughter Mike proves he's on top.
Mike's girl friend Celia (voice of Jennifer Tilley) is the stylish employee who has Mike's best interest at heart. Her job is to keep him out of trouble.
I give Monsters, Inc. a ten. It is an animated movie that can be enjoyed by the whole family. It makes for great family fun.

The Maze Runner Full Movie Free Download
Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his
memory is erased, soon learning they're all trapped in a maze that will
require him to join forces with fellow "runners" for a shot at escape.
Director:
Wes BallWriters:
Noah Oppenheim (screenplay), Grant Pierce Myers (screenplay) |Stars:
Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Will Poulter |Storyline
Thomas wakes up in an elevator, remembering nothing but his own name. He
emerges into a world of about 60 teen boys who have learned to survive
in a completely enclosed environment, subsisting on their own
agriculture and supplies. A new boy arrives every 30 days. The original
group has been in "The Glade" for three years, trying to find a way to
escape through the Maze that surrounds their living space. They have
begun to give up hope. Then a comatose girl arrives with a strange note,
and their world begins to change. There are some great, fast-paced
action scenes, particularly those involving the nightmarish Grievers who
plague the boys. Written by

I've never read the books, but knowing general trends Maze Runner has some big shoes to live up to. The premise is quite simple, a boy gets sent up to a center of the maze with a handful of other boys, and no memories of where he was before. This familiar bout of amnesia, is apparently normal, and within seconds he is integrated into a culture reminiscent of Lord Of The Flies. Of course, like always, Thomas is the one who defies the normal rules, and starts the journey of change that starts the trilogy. While the story is nothing we haven't seen before, the Maze Runner has some suspense and unknown elements that keeps you latched into the film. Throughout the film, my mind worked to uncover and guess the twists they had at the end, knowing the general nature of the set-up, yet not quite able to figure out the specific details. It is this element, at least for a Maze Runner newbie like me, that kept me into the movie.
Despite the underlying mystery though, there were some other elements in the mix that made the Maze Runner an interesting experience. For one thing the movie is well shot and edited together. The entire journey is captured well, each angle well suited to give you the greatest detail in as little transitions. The same techniques remain during the dramatic argument scenes, which, when combined with the audio of booming drums and blaring horns, brings out the emotion and tension the boys are feeling. Yet, the best part of the camera editing are the action scenes, especially concerning the maze. It is always nice to see a movie defy the trend of shaky camera work, forgoing the "realistic" first person perspective for actually showing us the scene at hand. Whether it be running or fighting, the camera is surprisingly stable and well focused on the matter at hand and brings some excitement to a rather slow plot line.
Yes, unfortunately the story of the Maze Runner is a little drawn out and at points, rather vague and inconclusive. At first the ambiguity is fun, the multiple, unanswered questions keeping you wondering what path the movie will turn down next. These elements are integrated quite well with character developing moments, allowing more character buildup to help set the stage. However, for this reviewer it's nice to get some answers at points in the movie instead of more questions. Maze Runner for me provided vague solutions to the unknown, leaving more questions with that answer. Now this can be good if there is a nice wrap up to the madness, but for this movie that wasn't the case for me. I know, many are going to say that there are three books and answers come later, but this reviewer wanted a little more wrap up to at least some of the questions that developed over the two hours. To tell you the truth, I felt kind of gipped at the end of the movie, saying at the end, and I quote one of the characters, "Really?"
Despite the ambiguity though there are two other elements that help keep the movie going. First off the action is fun and relevant to the plot, the maze portions in particular being an intense fight for survival. Despite being a little savage and gruesome at parts, the evolutionary drive to remain alive is balanced with strategy, running, and fights with primitive tools. The action doesn't seem extra, but is built into the story quite well, spanning the fighting spectrum between the male rivalry to fighting the raging the Grievers. Of course the action is only as good as the acting as well, especially when it comes to interacting with CGI settings. Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) is the staple to the casting, surprising me with his performance of a male version of Catniss. Unlike the leading lady though, Thomas fought the culprits without being as whiney, a plus in my book for a leading character. O'Brien had a nice balance to his role, passionate and fiery, without crossing into an overacted, melodramatic mess. Lead Maze Runner Minho (Ki Hong Lee) was also a nice supporting character, bringing the wing man role to life and adding a little grounding to Thomas's flamboyant attitude. As for characters like Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), Alby (Aml Ameen), Chuck (Blake Cooper), and Gally (Will Poulter), they were good too and each did a nice job playing their respective characters. Though with the exception of O'Brien, the real strength was the chemistry between all the group was the greatest quality of the acting and the community they formed.
Overall the Maze Runner is a decent addition to the movie based on book library. There is a nice design to the movie, and a lot of good character building to set the stage in this morbid tale. Acting wise it is enjoyable, but in reality it's the action surrounding the story that got me the most. I still wished though that there was some better wrap up than what we got, despite the opening it provided. Overall a decent movie to watch this weekend, and has elements worth a visit to the theater. My scores are:
Action/Mystery/Sci-Fi: 7.5 Movie Overall: 7.0

This weekend is a big weekend, with at least three blockbuster movies releasing in my neck of the woods. I start my reviews this weekend with perhaps the most anticipated of the bunch, the Maze Runner. Once again Hollywood has decided to take a book series and run with it, in hopes that it will be the next big series to change the world. Yet like always, the question remains: Is this another glorified mess from the trailers, or have they done a good job? Well with two of my good buddies, I headed to the theater to start my weekend of reviews.I've never read the books, but knowing general trends Maze Runner has some big shoes to live up to. The movie is like a pendulum goes back and forth that too without any motion!!!!
Poor story-line and too much hype makes it a boring journey overall. One can see this movie was made at an haste and was too eager to be released. Hence, this hype was created and it failed miserably to ride the hype wave.
If anyone thinks this is anywhere close to DDLJ then they will be fooling themselves! Rohit Shetty is best suited for Golmal and not any other type of movie.
Kajol is a sweetheart and SRK is at his disappointing best. Story-line is so poor that you start getting bored from the beginning. It seems like a typical Rohit Shetty movie where he tries yo mix-up the masala from 70s, 80s, and 90s....and we all know what happens to such movies!
Anyways if you decide to watch this disappointing movie then please go with an open mind and please please please please don't expect any fire works!
